CALAPAN
CITY – The Department of Education (DepEd) has adjudged the
Oriental Mindoro National High School (OMNHS) here as the best implementer of
“Brigada Eskwela” in the whole country during last week’s implementation of the
said annual undertaking.
Meanwhile,
two private foundations operating in the said island province did their shares
in supporting the same government program and at the same time, assisting needy
but deserving students in Oriental Mindoro continue their education.
According
to OMNHS Publication Research Unit Head and “Brigada
Eskwela” Focal Person Antonio M. Alido, the DepEd’s recognition
of their effort for the second consecutive year has elevated the school’s
status as a “Hall of Famer” in the said category. He said the
basis of DepEd’s selection of OMNHS as best implementer of the annual program
is the massive resources generated fund by their school for the said
undertaking.
It
can be noted that through the effort of OMNHS faculty and in coordination and
support of different stakeholders here such as the local government unit,
non-government organization (NGOs), parents and their school children, and
other civic groups, their school collected a total of P300,000
which can be used for school repairs.
Meanwhile,
the Malampaya Foundation Inc. (MFI), a private group being funded by the
Malampaya Natural Gas Project consortium, handed over school bags with school
supplies to about 300 students of Wawa Elementary School in this city and
assisted the said chosen school in the clean-up drive and repair of its
facilities for about a week during the implementation of “Brigada Eskwela” last
week.
MFI
Program Manager Teddy Bolivar said their support to the school is an
annual activity being implemented here by their foundation as part of its
corporate social responsibility and to uplift the young students’ welfare as
well as its school. He added MFI is also continuing its support to
other civic-oriented projects in Oriental Mindoro among which are: the
provincial government’s Strategic Intervention Community Focused Action
Towards Development o SICAD, scholarship to technical-vocational students,
fishery and agriculture sector support.
For
their part, the Give More for Action and Charity or GMAC Foundation, Inc.
has just announced that they are now choosing five poor but deserving students
for every municipality, including this city, for their educational assistance
program this school year, on top of the said foundations’ continuing training
support and seminars to some chosen schools around Oriental Mindoro.
GMAC
Foundation Chairman and President Manny T. Mas stated they are doing the said
educational support for Mindoro students as they are bent on uplifting the
level of literacy in the countryside such as the Mindoro Island.
